5 Popular Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments

If your teeth have minor imperfections, such as chips, cracks, stains, discoloration, or small gaps, cosmetic dentistry treatments can help you correct the flaws and perk up your smile.

At Back of the Wasatch Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Reed Lobrot and our team offer a wide range of cosmetic dentistry treatments to help our patients in Heber City, Utah, achieve the smile of their dreams. Here are five popular options to get you started.

5 popular cosmetic dentistry treatments

Cosmetic treatments not only cover imperfections but also help promote good oral health. Here are five good examples.

1. Veneers

Veneers are wafer-thin, tooth-colored shells that can be made from porcelain or resin composite, though porcelain is usually preferred because it resists stains better and more closely mimics the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth.

Dr. Lobrot removes an extremely thin layer of enamel from the tooth receiving the veneer, then bonds the shell to the front part of the tooth. It can cover stains, chips, or small cracks; lengthen a too-short tooth; and bridge a small gap that would otherwise serve as a repository for food particles and bacteria.

2. Crowns

Crowns are “caps” that fit over the tooth root, replacing the visible portion of a tooth that may have been damaged by decay or injury. Crowns restore the tooth’s shape, size, strength, and appearance and are shaded to match your surrounding teeth. They can also be used to cover a large filling, providing additional stability, and they serve as a restoration option when you’ve had a root canal.

3. Bridges

Dental bridges replace one or more teeth that have fallen out, decayed, or been extracted. The most common type contains an artificial tooth or teeth (pontic) cemented on either side of an existing tooth or a dental crown. This is a good option if you’re only missing a tooth or two.

4. Dentures

Dentures are artificial porcelain or resin teeth that replace anywhere from a few missing teeth (a partial denture, with teeth fixed to a removable metal frame) to a full arch (full denture with teeth fixed to an acrylic base that fits over your gums). Back of the Wasatch Family and Cosmetic Dentistry offers both the conventional removable set and implant-supported dentures that remain fixed in place. These are a good option if you’re missing many teeth, so you can reclaim your oral health.

5. Teeth whitening

We offer both in-office and at-home teeth whitening with the GLO™ system to get rid of stains and discoloration and make your teeth dazzle. The manufacturer claims the in-office treatment will make your teeth up to 12 shades whiter, while the at-home kit will whiten up to five shades brighter in just five days.

Also popular is the Invisalign® system of clear aligners. A modern alternative to traditional braces, these nearly invisible trays help shift your teeth into the proper alignment in about half the time as conventional methods.
